Excellent Value of Money

Copy.ai is impressive! I find the content it outputs really high-quality that typically only needs some basic editing. It’s generally accurate and does a good job of getting factual data correct. It has a heap of free tools that bloggers and copywriters will get a heap of value from. If you grab the yearly plan, I think it’s excellent value for money.

Copy.ai is a ChatGPT-powered software that helps you create high-quality content using pre-built prompt templates. Unlike the current version of ChatGPT 3.5, which only includes data up to 2021, Copy.ai uses accurate, up-to-date information that you can use for your own personal blogs and content.

Who Is Copy.ai For?

Copy.ai is an excellent tool for anyone who wants to create high-quality content for sales pages, websites, Facebook ads, google ads, emails, and my personal favorite – niche websites. It’s a great tool for someone like myself. I do digital marketing, email marketing, digital ads (Facebook & Google ads), and landing page sales copy.

Although I typically handwrite most of my copy from scratch, I’m beginning to use tools like copy.ai, koala.sh, and agility writer more and more in my day-to-day workflow.

Email Marketers

Copy.ai can be a useful tool for email marketers as it can help generate ideas and content for email subject lines and body copy. With its AI-powered writing assistance, Copy.ai can help save time and effort in crafting compelling emails that can drive engagement and conversions. Additionally, Copy.ai’s paragraph generator can be used to generate unique paragraphs for emails, making it a versatile tool for email marketing.

Web Copywriters

Copy.ai can be a useful tool for website copywriters as it can assist in generating ideas and content for website copy such as headlines, product descriptions, and even blog posts. Personally, I’ve always found it hard to write website copy and find new and exciting ideas for web content. Copy.ai does a great job of coming up with fresh ideas to help spark something to write about.

Freelance Content Writers

If you’re a freelance content writer, copy.ai will be an enormous time saver. Obviously, you wouldn’t rely on it to output all your copy, but using the toolset inside copy.ai is where you’ll spend the majority of your time. When I freelanced for a few months, I’d often hit writers block – where my brain just couldn’t think of anything new or fun to write about. Starring at a blinking cursor for 20 minutes is not fun. Especially when you’ve got dead lines to meet for clients. I wished I had access to copy.ai back then.

A lot of AI software companies have a free or ‘freemium’ tier that gives you access to the tool with a limited number of features. The good news is Copy.ai has a great free tier that comes with access to a large chunk of the tool.

Templates play a pretty big role inside the copy.ai platform. As you can see from the image below, there’s a huge number of options available to create content. There’s write blog intro, write blog outline, write blog section, recurring email newsletter, testimonial email, cold outreach email, and the list goes on and on. I’ve never seen so many templates in a content writer before!

If you plan to use a content writer for a huge array of copywriting across your business, I can see copy.ai becoming a very valuable tool for you. In fact, a few years back I worked as the chief copywriter for a well-known book author. We wrote a crap load of copy across social media, youtube, email, website and Google docs – I feel like copy.ai would be ideal for that scenario. It’s the one-stop shop for marketers and copywriting teams. The $36 plan could easily replace an entry-level copywriter.

Quality Of Work Produced

Alright, time to get real for a minute. There are a lot of tools that are pretty similar to copy.ai. In fact, right now there are about 10 tools that do very similar things.

So when I review a new tool, here’s what I typically look for:

  • How good is the content it outputs
  • How much editing and grammar checking do I need to do after the article is generated?
  • Is the content accurate and current (not stuff from 2021)
  • Are the headings and formatting correct (agility writer does a decent job of this)
  • Are the sources linked in the article reliable sources
  • How much fluff is there in the article?
  • Is the tone of the article engaging
  • Is the article E-E-A-T Friendly
  • And does it achieve a reasonable surfer SEO score (not looking for perfection, just something pretty decent)

Outside of free access to the actual writing tools inside copy.ai, there are also some extremely helpful tools built into copy.ai that no other tool provides (yet).

Here’s a breakdown of the free tools:

Using Infobase

Infobase is one of the smartest ideas I’ve ever seen in any ai content writer. Here’s how works:

  1. You click the ‘Infobase’ link in the left-hand side menu bar
  2. You create a new Infobase with a unique hashtag that you’ll reuse in your content at a later stage. For example, if you have a team and you want them to all have the same info on a particular topic, you can save an Infobase like “what is chatgpt”
  3. After you save your Infobase, go to one of the unique tools in copy.ai
  4. Let’s say you use the ‘Chat’ tool, and you tell copy.ai to create a short email to explain what chatGPT is
  5. You then write the email and insert the Infobase using the # shortcut (#what is chatgpt)
  6. You can create multiple infobase’s for any topic across the whole copy.ai tool

Infobase is one of the smartest ideas I’ve ever seen in any ai content writer.

Ease Of Use

Personally, I really like how easy the dashboard is to use inside copy.ai. It takes the ‘less is more’ approach, and in my opinion, it’s a great option. The left-hand side of the interface houses all the tools:

The center section is where you’ll interact with each tool and tell copy.ai what you want to be created. I’ve personally tested a few different tones from the drop-down list and I think copy.ai does a pretty good job at changing the ‘feel’ of the copy it outputs.

Once you’ve clicked ‘Create Content’ you’ll have a section on the far right that opens up the editor. Here you can obviously make changes to the content, add H1, H2, H3’s and all of the typical bullet points, lists, and strikethrough options. Although I love the interface of copy.ai, I don’t love the editor compressed on the far right.

I typically work on a Macbook Pro most of the time, and the editor feels just a tiny tad too small – not a deal breaker if you work on a normal widescreen monitor but it’s taken me a little bit to get used to.

The Google Chrome Extension is really handy

I love having access to Chrome Extensions for any paid tool I sign up for. It makes things so much quicker and easier to use in Google Docs, RankIQ, Frase.io or any content editing tool that I’m using.

Although I love Agility Writer, unfortunately, it’s still missing a Chrome Plugin at this stage, meaning copy.ai has the upper hand if you want to create ai content outside of the tool itself. BTW, I currently use ARC browser as a Chrome replacement if you want a modern lightweight alternative. (You’ll probably notice it in lots of my screen dumps).

Plagiarism Checks

Copy.ai’s built-in Plagiarism Check feature works by comparing the content generated by the user (inside the app) against a database of existing content on the internet. The feature uses advanced algorithms to identify any similarities between the user’s content and the existing content and provides a score indicating the level of similarity detected.

Suppose the Plagiarism Check detects a high level of similarity. In that case, you can then review the content and make revisions as necessary to ensure that it is original and does not infringe on any existing copyrights.

It is important to note that while the Plagiarism Check can be a useful tool for detecting potential plagiarism, it is not foolproof and may not detect all instances of copied content.

The Grammar and Spelling feature is designed to help users produce high-quality content that is free from errors and easy to read. In saying that, I still prefer Grammarly – which you can use in conjunction with copy.ai’s editor. I’m not great at grammar, so having two options really helps me improve the quality of my content.
